Maple Plain Single Family Residential Yard Waste Programs

Minnesota State law (State Statute 115A.931-YARD WASTE PROHIBITION) requires that you now use compostable bags for your yard waste. The law was written to keep black plastic out of composting facilities, which creates an organic waste stream free of plastic. Compostable bags include; Kraft paper bags or compostable plastic bags that are usally clear or a tinted shade of green, white, or pink. However the color is not a sure way of determining the compostability of a plastic bag. Compostable plastic bags must state that they meet ASTM D6400 standards for composting and that they are “compostable”. Not all bags marked “biodegradable” or “degradable” meet the state law. Most home improvement, grocery and hardware stores carry compostable bags.

Randy’s provides a weekly curbside yard waste collection. Yard waste season begins on April 2, 2012 and ends November 19, 2012 (Weather permitting).

The city of Maple Plain also has a Drop off Facility.  It is located at 1275 Poplar Ave.  The site is open to the City of Maple Plain residents.  The hours are:  April 1-October 31, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Closed Saturdays and Sundays.  Only grass clippings, leaves and brush are accepted.  Please remove your grass clippings and leaves from plastic bags and take the bags with you as these items don't compost wrapped in plastic.  If you have any questions regarding the City of Maple Plain's Compost and Brush Site please contact the City of Maple Plain 763-479-0515.
