Delano Single Family Residential Yard Waste Program

The new Minnesota State law (State Statute 115A.931-YARD WASTE PROHIBITION) requires that you now use compostable bags for your yard waste. The law was written to keep black plastic out of composting facilities, which creates an organic waste stream free of plastic. Compostable bags include; Kraft paper bags or compostable plastic bags that are usally clear or a tinted shade of green, white, or pink. However the color is not a sure way of determining the compostability of a plastic bag. Compostable plastic bags must state that they meet ASTM D6400 standards for composting and that they are “compostable”. Not all bags marked “biodegradable” or “degradable” meet the state law.
Most home improvement, grocery and hardware stores carry compostable bags. If you don’t see them at your local store, ask an employee.

Randy’s provides a weekly curbside yard waste collection. Yard waste season begins typically the first full week of April and ends on the third Thursday in November (Weather permitting).

The City of Delano has a drop-off facility.  It is located at the intersection of River St N and Couty Road 30 SE.  The site is open to City of Delano residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Brush and tree limbs can be placed in the "Brush Site" and grass clippings and leaves can be deposited in the "Compost Site".  Please remove your grass clippings and leaves from plastic bags and take the bags with you, as these items will not bio-degrade if wrapped in plastic.  If you have any questions regarding the City of Delano's Compost and Brush Site, please contact the Delano Public Works Department at 763-972-0580.
